Supporting Climate-Ready and Sustainable Fisheries

Billions of people rely on fish as their primary source of protein. In recognition of the direct benefits to humans from healthy oceans, the United Nations adopted Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14 to conserve and sustainably use marine resources. Yet, fisheries sustainability continues to be challenged by overfishing and high levels of non-target or discarded catch. Projected climate changes may also pose a substantial risk to sustainable fisheries. Working directly with fisheries stakeholders, we are developing the Fisheries and Climate Toolkit (FaCeT) to provide applications that track fisheries-relevant physical and biological features of the ocean to support climate-ready and sustainable fisheries.
