FaCeT
Sustainable Fisheries
FaCeT seeks to bridge the gap between fisheries and climate science to support climate-ready and sustainable fisheries.
We analyze the spatial and temporal distributions of highly migratory species and how these affect fishing fleets as they respond by shifting operation locations. FaCeT addresses the increasing concern of impending ecological and economic disruptions as climate impacts magnify. These disruptions require management and conservation strategies that consider future climate effects on the sustainability of fisheries worldwide.
FaCeT Fishery Applications
FaCeT offers nowcasting and forecasting applications to directly address the specific management challenges, needs, and priorities that fisheries face in the context of climate variability and risk. FaCeT fishery applications focus on tracking fishery vessel responses to marine heatwaves, projections for key species, and understanding uncertainty.
Learn about the Tracking Vessel Responses tool, which explores how marine heatwaves impact fishing ground suitability and fleet distribution.
Read about our California Current System (CCS) Futures model and how our model findings can help fisheries prepare for the climate-induced habitat and distribution changes to come for four key CCS fishery species.
See the insights we've gained from our Northwest Atlantic (NWA) Futures model, which compares the spatial and temporal habitat and distribution changes of six key NWA fishery species.
FaCeT's Understanding Uncertainty model takes into account three important sources of uncertainty in projecting climate change impacts on fisheries.
